The Lawrence Community Management Group, Inc., was organized in February, 1997 by Ian M. Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence spent eight years with the Kopf Construction Company, Avon Lake, Ohio, where he was the Vice President and General Manager of VIP Property Management Company, an affiliated company. In his capacity, Mr. Lawrence provided management services to condominiums, homeowners' associations and commercial properties.
Mr. Lawrence elected to leave the Kopf organization in the spring of 1996, and joined Carnegie Management and Development Corporation as Vice President of Property Management. Carnegie Management and Development Corporation is a full service commercial and residential real estate development and management firm based in Westlake, Ohio.
Several of Mr. Lawrence's former Westlake condominium association clients contacted him during the summer of 1996 seeking management advice and assistance as their contracts had been terminated by VIP Property Management Company due to an organizational restructuring and downsizing that occurred following Mr. Lawrence's departure.
Due to the need for local management services, Mr. Lawrence organized Carnegie Community Management, Inc., as part of the Carnegie organization and was promptly retained eleven former VIP client associations. A 1996 year-end review of the Carnegie business groups resulted in a decision that the association management business did not fit into Carnegie's long-range plans. As a result, Mr. Lawrence organized The Lawrence Community Management Group in early 1997 and assumed all of the business operations and accounts of Carnegie Community Management. The Lawrence Community Management Group plans to limit its growth to the west side suburbs in accordance with the company's mission statement and business plan.
The company has grown at a steady rate and in 2001, a Maintenance Division was formed. The addition of the in-house maintenance department permits maintenance tasks to be addressed in a timelier manner and with more control over the work than when it is given to an outside third party contractor. The company's growth has been according to the original plan and continues to be oriented towards western Cuyahoga County (west of I-77), northern and central Lorain County (north of Rt.303), and northern Erie county, with plans to expand as growth opportunities occur in the marketplace.
